Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. There, you’ll meet your experienced guide who will provide a comprehensive briefing about your upcoming trek. They’ll also conduct an equipment check to ensure you have all the necessary gear for your Kilimanjaro adventure. If any gear is missing, don’t worry—you can rent it on this day.

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel around 8:00 am. You’ll then be transferred to the Lemosho gate, situated on the western side of Kilimanjaro. After completing the registration process, your climb will commence steadily through the lush forests of the Lemosho glades. Your destination for the night is the Big Tree camp.

Today’s trek takes you across a picturesque plateau of grassy moorland and scattered volcanic rock formations. As you journey from Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2, you’ll gain altitude and encounter some steep sections. Along the way, keep an eye out for views of Kibo Peak floating among the clouds. From the western side of the mountain, you’ll also get unique glimpses of the Northern Ice fields. The steady climb across the Shira Plateau will aid in acclimatization, and you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic vistas.

The pinnacle of the Lava Tower (at 4,640 meters or approximately 15,223 feet) awaits—a perfect spot to savor your lunch. In the afternoon, a steep descent leads us to our camp for the night, nestled at the base of the Great Barranco Valley (at 3,960 meters or around 13,000 feet). Here, towering cliffs provide shelter, while extensive views of the plains below unfold.

Our journey begins by descending into the impressive Great Barranco, a vast ravine. We then ascend steeply, conquering the Great Barranco Wall, which separates us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. This leg of the climb involves rocky terrain, not technically challenging but certainly lengthy and demanding. As we pass beneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers, we make our way toward the Karanga valley. From there, we face a steep ascent from Karanga valley to our night’s camp at Karanga camp, situated at an elevation of 3963 meters. For those with ample strength, an acclimatization trek to approximately 4200 meters awaits in the mid-afternoon, followed by a descent back to camp for the night.

After a restful night and a hearty breakfast, we embark on our trek to Barafu camp, situated at an elevation of 4640 meters. This segment of the climb leads us across barren scree slopes, devoid of any vegetation. The path is steep and challenging, exacerbated by the high altitude. Upon reaching the camp, we refuel with a meal and spend the afternoon resting, preparing ourselves for the arduous night and day ahead. Staying hydrated and warm is crucial. An early dinner is followed by an attempt to catch some sleep, as we’ll be rising between 11 PM and 12 AM to commence our ascent to the summit.

"Embarking on our ascent around midnight, we ascend steeply toward the summit glaciers. Over the course of 4 to 5 hours, we traverse scree slopes, gaining remarkable elevation in a short span. The vistas are nothing short of spectacular. As the sun’s first rays touch us, we find ourselves on the crater rim at Stella Point (5739 meters). The surrounding ice cliffs within the crater create a breathtaking scene, with views extending to the jagged Mawenzi peak and beyond. Continuing for another hour, we reach the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895 meters). Our descent begins by retracing our steps to Stella Point, followed by descending along a scree slope. Finally, we return to Barafu Camp for a well-deserved breakfast before heading down to Millennium Camp for a restful recovery.
