Overview
The 6-day Kilimanjaro Machame Route is a premier choice for ascending Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Known for its breathtaking scenery and impressive success rates, this route offers a blend of moderate to challenging hiking experiences.
Often referred to as the “Whiskey” route, the 6 Days Kilimanjaro Machame Route is highly favored among Kilimanjaro enthusiasts. Its allure lies in the captivating beauty of its surroundings. However, it’s important to note that the trail is characterized by steep and demanding terrain, particularly due to its shorter itinerary. Hence, this route is best suited for adventurous individuals or those with prior high-altitude, hiking, or backpacking experience.
The journey begins with a brief drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. From there, the route sets off from the southern approach of Mount Kilimanjaro. Trekking through the lush rainforest, hikers ascend to the expansive Shira Plateau, where various routes on Kilimanjaro converge. Subsequently, the path veers eastward, skirting beneath the Southern Ice Field along the Southern Circuit before culminating at Barafu for the summit push.
